The Mogul Dynasty came into being during the 1500s, Bābur, the founder, had a group of warriors who captured the city Delhi. This established the Mogul Dynasty. The first ruler, Bābur's grandson Akbar was an intelligent and industrious ruler. He conquered a lot of land using heavy artillery. During his reign, he was interested in other religions so he tolerated religious practices. He also gave zamindars, or lower ranking officials, plots of farmland in which they gave a majority of the tax money to the central government. He was able to exercise considerable power and authority in these local districts. The Akbar era was mostly a time of progress. After Akbar died, his son Jahāngīr began to rule. He started to strengthen the central government but slowly gave to one of his wives Nūr Jahān who used her power to enrich her family. Trouble started when Jahāngīr died. His sons fought and killed each other to take the throne. When his son Aurangzeb became king, he forbade a lot of things like gambling and drinking. People started revolts potting the government and rebellious groups threatened the power of the emperor. After his death, the rulers did not rule for long and India started to get divided. Delhi was destroyed by Persians in 1739, which was the end of the Moguls.
